General InformationYosemite National Park is a U.S. National Park located in California. The park is about 761,268 acres and covers the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain chain. Yosemite is 95% wilderness and was designated a World Heritage Site in 1984. Over 3.7 million visitors come to Yosemite and most of these visitors stay in Yosemite Valley which makes up only 1% of the park. It is internationally known for it's spectacular granite cliffs and waterfalls. It is also one of the most popular rock climbing destinations due to it's diverse range of climbing routes and year round accessibility. Besides rock climbing, other activities include driving destinations within the park, hiking, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, cycling, and swimming and rafting during the warmer season.
